Pumpkin Carving 2003

This year's annual Halloween celebration was held Oct. 4, far too soon for any normal post-carved pumpkin to last until Halloween, but since Dana's due date was the 24th, we thought we'd remove the stress of chancing the onset of labor by celebrating early.

This pumpkin's time has come.

Sheri digs in.

Michael choses the more humane "pumpkin painting" instead of pulling out the gourd's brains .... err, seeds.

The other Michael longs to dig out the brains ... err, seeds.

Helen stabs.

Bob and Charlie prepare for a dip in the pool.

Louis' hand and her pumpkin.

Phoebe and Saffy want to know where their pumpkins are.

Dana makes the best chicken salad.

I take pictures of everything. Here's the fruit salad.

Louis (we should nickname her "overboard") carved up some red potatoes into the shape of mushrooms. She also brought the pumpkin empanadas seen to the left.

Helen pokes out another eye.

A wider view of the yard.

The less-occupied side of the yard, firepit and pregnant lady included.

Grits and Saffy (or Phoebe?) play in the grass.

Helen's pumpkin.

Louis' pumpkin.

The fence! ... yes, a picture of the fence, no good reason.

Gathering in the shade.

Ivy works intently.

Sheri gives her pumpkin a few more scars.

Michael's masterpiece.

Tom and Ivy's pumpkins, respectively.

Illuminated!

Illuminated!

Illuminated!

Illuminated!

Sheri's three-eyed horror!

A view of the inside of a pumpkin.

The dogs wonder if they can come inside yet.

I failed to take even one picture of the pumpkin guts.

Next year ...
